Journey

Queen Fyah, originally Merrium Pondani, is a vibrant voice in Malawi's roots-reggae genre, recognized for her compelling critique of social issues and celebration of African identity. Born and raised in the culturally rich locales of Blantyre and Liwonde, Queen Fyah followed in her mother’s footsteps into education, a path that ran parallel to her growing musical ambition and eventual embrace of Rastafari. Her debut single, “Mothotjabe,” struck a chord with its plea for unity and shared humanity, quickly earning a place on Malawi's airwaves. Following this success, she released tracks such as “Munthu Chabe” and “Love Your Woman,” each one reinforcing themes of self-empowerment and cultural pride. Her work aligns closely with the styles of reggae icons like Jah9 and Tanya Stephens. Beyond the recording studio, Queen Fyah is a dedicated radio presenter at Ufulu FM and touring artist, whose shows have reached audiences as far as South Africa. With a BA in Education enriched by literature and linguistics, she continues to weave reggae’s global rhythms with African traditions, constructing a legacy that challenges injustice and uplifts the spirit of the African continent.
